The three speakers for the 30th January Meeting
The three speakers for the 30th January Meeting

The third week into the new year. Sunrise Toastmasters is humming with full agenda, a capacity audience, and Area Governor Maria and a visiting guest sussing us out.

With the rostered speaker out of town, Scott stepped up at the last minute to fill the Inspiration role. His message was clear and timely: ‘Say yes to opportunities. Growth doesnt come from comfort. Toastmasters is about being willing speakers. Say yes.’

Kathy took the reins as Toastmaster of the Day, guiding the meeting with the smooth efficiency of oil through the crankshaft bearings of a McLaren MP4.

The first presentation came from Denise, who delivered an educational session on the role of the General Evaluator. Evaluations are a cornerstone of Toastmasters — feedback helps all of us refine our skills and reach our goals — and Denise shared practical strategies that will benefit members at every stage.

Kirsten intrigued the room with her introduction of Robyn, who presented her Icebreaker speech. Robyn reflected on her heritage as the descendant of four generations of strong, formidable women, offering both insight and connection.

Swaroop then set the scene for Terry, who hit us squarely between the eyes with a motivational speech based on the five-second rule, exploring how to overcome negativity and internal resistance.

After a congenial coffee break, Victor led an engaging Table Topics session, with audience members rising to the challenge and delivering entertaining and thoughtful responses.

Evaluators George, Lydia, and Tim offered their perspectives on the three prepared speeches, followed by a polished and confident General Evaluation from Jessica — possibly inspired by Denise’s educational session earlier in the meeting.

Kathryn presented a clear and concise timing report for everyone who spoke (including herself), before President Terry brought the meeting to a close.

Sunrise Toastmasters is a club rich in both heart and capability. If you’re interested in developing your speaking or leadership skills, come along any Thursday morning at 7.00am for a look and a listen. You’ll be warmly welcomed.
