It Must Be Summer By Now!

Sunrise meeting 5 February
They say this is summer.
This is not summer!
Summer struts golden days, bending harvests, while sunflowers burst toward welcoming skies. Happy waves lap golden sands, while joyous tanned bodies bounce beach balls.
Such is summer.
But Land-slips, bridges washed to oblivion, thunderous skies threatening heaven’s deluge and air conditioners reversed to heat pump temperatures, not to mention that jersey you threw onto the back seat in the car ‘Just-in-case,’ now not enough to deter creeping shivers.
This is not summer.
Neither are blue-tinged, goose-fleshed, body-clasping, shivering, sniffing, simpering, Sad-Sacks, struggling in a Southerly at Brighton beach, licking sand-whipped Tip-Top Trumpets…
This is not summer.
If this is summer, recognise it as a
Shakespearean summer, a tragedy of a summer…
A summer of my discontent!

Toastmaster Victor's theme, ‘It must be Summer By Now’ appeared to inspire as much diversity as our current weather patterns.
‘Art Target,’ ‘Rockin’ Retirement,’ & ‘How Green Is Your Grass,’ were presented by Paul, Amanda and Jacquie, before a tornado of Table Topics had me wondering if I was no longer in Kansas.
Everybody spoke entertainingly from their unique perspectives, and a highlight for me was Jacquie’s comprehensive history of grass.
Beginning with a breakdown of grass growing personality archetypes, perfectionists, [in both introvert and extrovert form,] through to pragmatists and environmentalists, the scene developed to why we have lawns, their histories, fashions and mechanical and chemical interventions - enough material to achieve a PhD, all within 10 minutes.
Later, Kathryn presented a comprehensive analysis of Jacquie’s presentation in her first role as Evaluator. Such a perceptive and confident presentation would have been a valuable asset for even the most grizzled Toastmaster.
Sunrise Toastmasters is a club rich in both heart and capability. If you’re interested in developing your speaking or leadership skills, come along any Thursday at 7.00 am for a look and a listen. You’ll be warmly welcomed.
